My journey to Maramures- Part 1

July 2012, we decided to visit the amazing region of Maramures.
Maramures is Located in the north part of Romania and bordered with Ukraine and it is
a land of wooden churches, mythological richness, impressive landscapes and very ancient customs. It has carefully preserved the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of a medieval peasant past.
Varied landscapes of Mountains, rivers and lakes, cities and villages, and very warm people.
After landing in our accommodation in the village of Danesti, me, my wife and 2 little children, took a walk, just to explore this "Heavenly" place.
We entered to a field of apple and prune trees, and a big pile of hay..

After few minutes my children requested to stop near an old house, surrounded by walnuts and apple trees, a field of corn and vegetables garden.
Of course this is not the reason for little children to stop :) . The real reason was animals...

                          Peeking above the fence

A woman saw us and with hands signs and big smile, asked us to enter her property.
She gave us a nylon bag and asked us to pick apples from the trees , for us.
After that, she let our children to play with the young cow and her cats.

The nice woman told us to come afternoon to drink fresh milk from her cow.
Of course we came back, such a nice invitation, how could we refuse...?!

Transfagarașan and the Fagaraș mountains- June 2010

Transfagarasan(DN7C) road constructed between 1970 and 1974 during the rule of Nicolae Ceausescu.
Ceausescu wanted a quick military access across the mountains if the Soviets will invade.
The road climbs to 2034m and connects between the two regions: Translivania and Wallachia (the cities Sibiu and Pitesti).
The road is certainly teasing nature by its amazing curves.
Parts of the road are blocks during the year because of the snow.
It's also the way to two famous and special lakes: Balea and Vidraru .
On June,2010 me and my family went to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Fagaras mountains and Transfagarasan road.

                              Fagaras mountains

A lot of small waterfalls along the road

Free cows are resting in "Heaven"..

Me and my daughter near pure water

                         Wild horses near the road

                                 Yes, it's your road too....

Papanasi

Papanasi is a Romanian traditional boiled or fried dessert.(mostly fried)
It is filled with cheese and dressed with sour cream and blackberry jam.
You will find this amazing dessert almost in any restaurant allover Romania.
I have tried so many kinds and shapes in my journeys to Romania and there was always a small change in the recipe that make it "their own Papanasi".

                                      In hotel Belvedere,Brasov

In the village of Sibiel, near Sibiu. Not the best jam for Papanasi....

And few more... Bon Appetit ( Pofta Buna in Limba Romana).
